Maitri Farm grows certified organic vegetables, non-certified cut flowers, and pasture raised pork and lamb. The farm is named after the first of the four sublime states taught by the Buddha. Maitri has roots in the word "MITRA," which means "Friend." It is sometimes translated as "benevolence." It is the disposition of love pervading in all directions and embracing all beings.
Maitri Farm, NY-CT border in northeast Dutchess County, NY, is committed to the regenerative agriculture movement and fair labor practices. Their vegetables are NOFA-NY Certified Organic, and they grown their cut flowers following a minimal-till program and use no synthetic sprays. Their pasture-raised pigs and sheep are grazed through intensive pasture rotation. They feed on forage and supplemental local non-GMO grain from Stonehouse Grain in Hudson, NY.
Maitri Farm looks to a future of increasingly holistic farming through reducing their tillage every year, densely cover cropping, applying compost, using tarping and other stale seedbed methods. Their animals are raised on pasture with ample space, fresh forage, and a stress-free existence. While providing stewardship of the land, they also believe this care produces superior-tasting food.
