Course: Beverages
Season(s): Summer
Ingredients
- 1/2 quart Bourbon (rum, brandy or whiskey may be used if preferred)
- 1 quart tart/pie cherries (pitted if wanting to eat the cherries too)
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- optional: 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or nutmeg
- jar with lid
Instructions
Place cherries, cinnamon and sugar in the jar and mix. Add bourbon and stir together. Seal the jar. Place in a cool dark place. Gently shake and rotate jar daily until sugar is dissolved. Some recipes recommend aging for several months, 3 minimum.
This drink was historically made during the summer months for Christmas time enjoyment, but is delicious after only a few weeks. The alcohol soaked cherries are excellent on ice cream.
