Created by New York State MapleCourse: Side Dishes
Diet: Vegetarian
Season(s): Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound mushrooms (like portobello) or chicken or pork
- 1 medium yellow onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/3 stick butter
- salt, pepper and herbs (like sage, rosemary, thyme) to taste
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
Instructions
Cut the mushrooms or meat into 1/2 inch slices. Chop the onion and slice the garlic.
Heat the oil and butter together in a wok or large saute pan over medium heat. When the butter has melted, add the onion and cook until translucent. Reduce the heat and add the garlic, cooking just until fragrant. Add the mushrooms or meat. Cook 5-7 minutes. Add salt, pepper and desired herbs and cook for another minute, stirring. Drizzle in the maple syrup, stir to combine, and cook for another minute or until the meat has cooked through. Serve warm as a side dish or on top of rice.
