Spiced Wine-Poached Pears with Chocolate

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups red wine
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 star anise pod
- 3 whole cloves
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 pears, washed, cut in half, cores & stems removed
- 1/2 cup good quality chocolate, melted
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- chopped almonds or walnuts
- whipped cream
Instructions
Place all ingredients for spiced wine in a saucepan over med-high heat. Bring to boil, then immediately reduce to simmer. Put pears in flesh side down and cover. Cook until pears are slightly soft. Remove to paper towel, blot. Bring liquid back to high heat and cook uncovered until reduced by about 2/3. Spoon into bottom of a bowl. Place 2 pear halves in each bowl. Add tsp cinnamon to the melted chocolate and stir. Drizzle over pear, sprinkle with nuts,then top with whipped cream. Serve warm.
