Cielito Mio makes Mexico City-style salsas using dried chilis. Born and raised in Mexico City, Cielito Mio's founder, Karen, grew up eating Mexican food cooked by her grandma and mother, as well as her husband's family. From Yucatan's Cochinita Pibil and Panuchos to Mexico City's tacos and pozole, she was exposed to delicious and traditional Mexican food her whole life. But Mexico City is also a place wiith a very diverse cuisine. "In Mexico," Karen says, "we like to add spice to everything; it doesn't matter if it's Mexican food or international food (sushi with chiles toreados, pasta, and hamburgers with salsa, and paella with pickled jalapeno pepper). Salsas are a fundamental part in the Mexican culture!"
After coming to live in the United States, Karen started making salsas to feel closer to Mexican food. After a time she decided that her salsa was so good at enhancing any food that it was worth sharing it with anyone who wanted to have a little bit of Mexican flavor in their kitchen. Cielito Mio's salsas can be used as a seasoning, marinade or condiment. The mild adds umami richness to any dish while the hot offers a kick of spiciness as well.
