Nearly two centuries ago, the Kent family started Locust Grove Fruit Farm on a small parcel of land on the banks of the Hudson River. Today, through an unbroken lineage of family farmers, the seventh generation is stepping onto the soil of their 100-acre farm. The family specializes in fruit, including an annual harvest of seventy apple varieties, many of which hint to their heritage with names like "Black Twig" and "Northern Spy." They also grow ten varieties of pears, as well as Concord grapes, quinces, and a range of peaches, plums and nectarines, among other kinds of delicious produce.
Much of the modern harvest at Locust Grove can be traced to the 1800s, when it was common to sail the goods to markets downstream by sloop. The farm is testimony to the rich abundance of the Hudson Valley, as well as to the Kent family skills crafted by time.
